IT MIGHT COME IN HANDY IF YOUR DOG EVER HAS PUPS!

PROGRESS REPORTS ON MISTY'S PUPS

So far (June 12) no sign of Misty being in season.

(June29) Still no sign of the much-awaited season. She's really late.

STOP PRESS: Hooray... Misty is finally in season... mating occurring July 9,10,11.
Stay tuned.

July 17 Misty and Sam mated well (if that's the word) and we await the first signs of Pregnancy.

July 23 Misty has enlarged nipples, bare of fur, and exhibiting all the good signs
Here's hoping....

August 6.... Not much to report... just some swelling around nipples.
She is a bit quiet, which could be a good sign!

August 13... Nipples enlarging (she has an extra nipple next to one of the big ones)
does this mean she can feed from it.. we wonder. Took her to the vet. All AOK.

August 22.... Hooo weee... her belly is hanging low and she is very quiet.
Won't play with Woody on the beach, prefers to walk... 3 weeks to go. she is resting often in her whelping box.

Nifty whelping box....

August 29.... A day of disappointment at first, but soon followed by joy.
We had an x-ray today, and Misty moved during the taking, but it looked good enough. Except we couldn't see any pups. Imagine our disappoinment...... So it was off to Moruya Vet surgery (half hour up the road) for an ultrasound. First placement of the little thingummy and WOW one pup... then another, then possibly a third... impossible to count them. How we wished we had had the ultrasound earlier.... Anyway, champagne tonight to celebrate. (Misty didn't enjoy the proceedings at all, especially as she had to delay breakfast until after the x-ray. The dry bed arrived today. The biolac 10kg bucket is on its way. The heat lamp is also on its way. Phew. Stay tuned.

Wow... look at my teats...
(and I'm bald from the ultrasound)

September 6th.... all is well. The Biolac arrived, the heatlamp is hanging above the whelping box.
We are sleeping downstairs near the whelping box.
All teats are now evenly hanging down, though no sign of milk yet.
Six nights to go (though everyone advises us that it may be sooner).

September 13th.... No pups yet, quick visit to the vet. Check-up shows all OK.

September 15th... Vet check... all fine. She's entered first stages of labour.

Sept 16th and17th PUPS DELIVERED... 2 GIRLS, ONE BOY
More info in next few days. Got some sleeping to do (all of us).

September 20... Well we've settled down with 3 beautiful pups and a mum who enjoys them most of the time. She seems to be restless in the mornings and in the evenings, and we think it is because she wants to go back to her normal routine of a walk and a play at these times.
All the pups have put on weight, and they certainly can drink! They clean Misty out regularly, and we wonder how 10 pups could share the same amount of milk....
They have wool collars of blue, gold and red. Blue weighed 500g at birth and now weighs 720g... Gold weighed 450g and now weighs 620g... and Red (the boy) weighed 475g and is now 700g.. wow they grow...
We filed their sharp nails a little today to stop them scratching Misty.
Misty is well and looks a little more like her usual self each day, and is eating like a trooper (though there's not much on earth that would stop her eating).
Soon we will begin the training of the pups in shoe-eating, garden digging and clothes tearing... just like all Labrador breeders do..(just joking).

September 30..... All puppies and Misty doing well... weight gained is more than a kilo each. Eyes are open. Walking on four legs (trying to). Lapped some Biolac off our fingers today. Sorry, no pics yet... film comes back on Tuesday. Each of them has a distinctive yelp, which we can now identify. Two lots of happy future owners have visited and chosen their pups. Will be hard to part with them! Thankyou to all our web well-wishers.
